The photo above sort of epitomizes Brad + Jen. Brad is a quiet, more serious guy while Jen perfectly balances him with her fun and boisterous personality.
They had the sweetest and chill early summer wedding on a day that started with rain but cleared in plenty of time for me to meet them at their home to take some getting ready photos. We walked to a nearby path for them to see one another for the first time and Brad broke into the hugest smile when he saw Jen. For a man who is selective with his smiles, it was easy to see why Jen wins the majority of them - so much love between these two.
She presented him with the gift of a viking helmet (an inside joke) but even better, she managed to pull some strings to get him a spot as a guest judge at Ribfest! Such an awesome gift for her soon-to-be husband, a huge rib enthusiast!
We made our way to a nearby park for a few more portraits before heading to Abraham Erb’s Grist Mill in Uptown Waterloo where their friends and family met them for the ceremony. The rings were waiting in a bowl made by Brad and they headed down the aisle together to say their vows (led by the fabulous Jeff Maeck) and place those rings on each other’s fingers.
Afterward we hung out and took more images by the lake at Waterloo Park while the guests made the short journey to Nick & Nat’s Uptown 21 for the reception. We meandered that way too, stopping to jump in alleys and just be hella urban before the couple rejoined their guests.
Such a beautiful and intimate venue, Uptown 21 served us all a super delicious meal and drinks with time to socialize and laugh between courses, so relaxed. Once dessert was cleared, a few hilarious speeches were delivered and then the couple played a twist on the newlywed game, with their siblings playing hosts.
As I was leaving, space was being cleared for dancing and a round of late-night food was coming out of the kitchen. A perfect evening.
Thank you Jen + Brad for welcoming me and for allowing to photograph your wedding adventure. It was so, so good.
