Soooo, sometimes you just become instant friends with a couple. Like you’ve known each other forever and when you are supposed to be talking about wedding stuff you forget and just chat about everything else instead. Yeah, that’s me with Ad + Nikki.
These two ladies made the trip to Uptown Waterloo to hang with me and take some engagement images ahead of their wedding later this September and it was so damn good. First of all, you would never know from checking out these babes that it felt like minus a million degrees with the wind, they are such freaking troopers! (When I whined Ad very correctly pointed out that I was wearing several extra layers and I should probably stop. So I did. LOL)
Second of all, they had warned me that they were “awkward” in front of the camera. I would like to hereby officially call their bluff on that one. They are in fact extremely adorable and completely non-awkward. Liars.
Thirdly, we must have been a bit of a spectacle crammed into the quaint and cozy Old Goat Books, where I asked them to canoodle among the stacks while I stood or sat really really close to them. But you have to do what you have to do to make the shots work. So it was just the three of us, trying hard to play it cool and maybe not being so successful in pretending it was a totally normal situation.
After a quick change into their fave band t-shirts, we braved the breezes again and found ourselves running through alleyways, laughing our butts off, shooting finger guns and trying to control our runny noses. Obviously.
And then came what might be one of my all-time fave little series of engagement images. Up to that point, Ad had been strictly barred from kissing Nikki, lest Nikki’s hot red lipstick was smudged past the point of no return or reapplication. Given permission to break the seal, Ad went for it full-on. And soon they were both covered in red smears while the wind whipped their hair and we laughed maniacally at the hilarity of it all while they tried to repair the damage.
If I wasn’t already excited to photograph their wedding (I was), now I am extra super pumped. Is September here yet?
